INMD Institute Community Support (ICS) Program (2024/2025)

The ICS Program is designed to foster community development by providing grants and awards to individuals and organizations for the purposes of:

  • enabling research and knowledge mobilization activities where the circumstances fall outside of CIHR's current suite of funding programs;
  • supporting individuals and organizations whose goals are consistent with CIHR and its Institutes' vision, mandate and strategic directions.

The ICS Program is not intended to support the direct cost of research (e.g., pilot projects, feasibility studies or operating grants), principal and co-investigator salaries or research equipment. INMD's contribution to the amount available for this program is subject to availability of funds voted annually to CIHR by parliamentary appropriations, and the conditions that may be attached to them.

Through the ICS Program, INMD will provide support to researchers and organizations relevant to its mandate. The Institute will only accept applications for the ICS Program through the mechanisms outlined below.

Planning and Dissemination Grants

INMD will provide support for planning and dissemination grants that are relevant to its mandate. This includes support for workshops and symposia.

The maximum amount for a single award is $15,000. The Planning and Dissemination Grants program is administered through ResearchNet and is typically launched twice a year: Spring and Winter. INMD Early Career Investigator Partnership Prizes

The INMD Early Career Investigator (ECI) Partnership Prize will support ECI Prizes awarded by voluntary health organizations (such as non-profit organizations, professional organizations and registered charities) that recognize outstanding research related to the Institute's mandate. Partner organizations may apply directly to INMD for these awards.

INMD will fund a maximum amount of $2,500 for a single award.

Acceptance of these funds will require Partner organizations to include CIHR-INMD in the title of the award. In addition, CIHR funds shall be awarded entirely to the recipient. None of the funds shall be directed to any administrative costs of the award presentation.

Successful applicants (partner organizations, not individuals) will be notified within 9 weeks of receiving their application submission. Funds will be released upon verification of awardees by the applicant.

Available funds

The total amount available for INMD’s ICS program for fiscal year 2024-25 will be detailed in the specific funding opportunities listed above as they are launched. The amount available for each funding opportunity is subject to the availability of funds voted annually to CIHR by parliamentary appropriations, and the conditions that may be attached to them.

INMD Training and Community Support Grant

The INMD Training and Community Support Grant will support INMD research communities, including researchers and Partner Organizations (i.e., voluntary health sector organizations such as non-profit organizations, professional organizations and registered charities), to build training programs in research domains largely and directly relevant to the Institute's mandate. INMD will fund a total of two grants with a maximum amount of $50,000 for a single grant.

The INMD Training and Community Support Grant may be used to develop and support training curriculum, training and career development meetings and events, or mentoring activities. Successful applicants be notified within 9 weeks of application submissions.
