The CIHR Canadian Microbiome Initiative 2 is co-led by the Institute of Genetics, Institute of Infection and Immunity, Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes and Institute of Gender and Health.

Canadian Microbiome Initiative 2: Research Core

The Canadian Microbiome Initiative 2: Research Core will coordinate research activities, facilitate sharing of expertise, knowledge and resources, support the integration of sex- and gender-based analysis (SGBA) and ethical considerations in research related to the microbiome and human health, and promote the translation of research outcomes into improved health, social and economic benefits for Canadians. The Research Core will also build on previous research investments by facilitating the addition of microbiome samples to existing large cohorts in Canada and will act as a resource to the Canadian Research community and to the Canadian Microbiome Initiative 2 Research Teams.

Canadian Microbiome Initiative 2: Research Teams

The Canadian Microbiome Initiative 2: Research Teams will develop new knowledge on the causational roles of microbiome in human health and disease, which will lead to the development of new preventative and therapeutic interventions.

The objectives of the Canadian Microbiome Initiative 2 Research Teams funding opportunity are to:

  • Create knowledge through translational research on the causational links between microbiome and human health and disease, with consideration of sex as a biological variable and gender as a social determinant of health.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaborations and foster Canadian expertise in microbiome and human health and disease to build synergies, and facilitate the sharing of data and resources.
  • Build upon and further the platforms and services provided by the CMI2 Research Core to build synergies, facilitate the sharing of data and resources and facilitate knowledge translation.
