Announcement: Early Career Researchers
AMED-CIHR Research Collaboration on Advancing Epigenetic Technologies
Canadian Epigenetics, Environment and Health Research Consortium (CEEHRC)
Application deadline: September 15, 2020
Anticipated notice of decision: December 2020
This funding opportunity will build on the respective research strengths of Canada and Japan through the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), in basic science and technology as it relates to epigenetics and epigenomics.
This initiative aims to strengthen existing links or foster new links that add value to research taking place in both Canada and Japan. This is expected to be achieved by facilitating exchange and catalyzing innovative synergy amongst collaborators. Applications may only be submitted by eligible early career researchers in each country. For this initiative, a single full proposal must be submitted to AMED through the online application system (e-Rad) and, in parallel, an abbreviated application must be submitted to CIHR using ResearchNet.
Objectives:
- To promote partnerships between Canada and Japan investigators in fields of biomedical and health research
- To promote the exchange of scientists, particularly early career scientists
- To promote knowledge or methodology exchange
- To promote complementary access to facilities/resources/equipment
- To promote stronger opportunity for collaborative research and catalyse further synergy
Funds: $900,000 CAD (CIHR) and $90 million JPY (AMED) over three years.
Each jointly planned Canada-Japan project will receive a maximum award of $300,000 CAD from CIHR for the Canadian component of the team, plus 30 million JPY from AMED for the Japanese researchers for the three-year period (that is $100,000 CAD from CIHR plus 10 million JPY from AMED per annum, over the three-year period).
Abbreviated application to CIHR
Canada-based Co-Principal Investigators must provide CIHR with an Operating Budget for the project, with the amounts quoted in Canadian dollars. A complete justification for funds requested, and one-page research summary of the project, are also required. These are to be provided through an abbreviated CIHR application using ResearchNet. The ResearchNet funding opportunity is still under development, and an update will be provided closer to the application deadline.
