Common Measures in Mental Health Research: Pilot
This pilot exercise is designed to facilitate the harmonization of mental health data collection in research, in alignment with the International Alliance of Mental Health Research Funders (IAMHRF).
- The adoption (or not) of these measures will not impact applicants’ eligibility or ratings, nor will it be discussed at the peer review evaluation. This exercise is an administrative activity for INMHA only, to gather information on the suitability and applicability of the use of these common measures.
- The IAMHRF Common Measures Board (CMB) has proposed a minimal list of data collection measures to facilitate and harmonize mental health data collection in research. An introduction to this project at IAMHRF, including frequently asked questions and participating organizations, can be found on the IAMHRF website.
- Funded teams will be expected to collect data using, at minimum, the following measures as proposed by the IAMHRF CMB (all available in the public domain).
- Demographics:
- Age
- Sex at birth
- Impairment:
- WHO Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0; for adults)
- Anxiety and Depression:
- Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9; for adults)
- General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7; for adults)
- Revised Children’s Anxiety and Depression Scale; (RCADS-25; for children and adolescents)
- Demographics:
- Note that use of these measures does not preclude funded teams from using additional data collection instruments as part of their projects; other data instruments can be used in addition to this list.
- As part of this pilot exercise, funded teams may opt out from using these proposed common measures. This information will be collected through progress reports and/or workshops, as indicated in the funding opportunity.
