Overview

The objective of this funding opportunity is to recognize exemplary research projects that exemplify the CIHR Strategic Plan 2021-31 priority: "champion a more inclusive concept of research excellence in all its diversity". While CIHR's concept development for inclusive research excellence is an iterative process, CIHR-IMHA aims to provide input by soliciting examples of research excellence from its own community which will be used as one input to guide this important work.

There are 5 different domains of CIHR-IMHA Inclusive Research Excellence prizes (see below). The prizes recognize fundamental knowledge creation, knowledge mobilization, multiple ways of knowing, non-traditional research methods, and outputs. Prizes will be awarded for research completed within the broad IMHA mandate areas.

This competition is open to (1) Early-Career Researchers (ECRs), (2) Mid-Career Researchers (MCRs), (3) Indigenous non-governmental organization(s) in Canada with a research and/or knowledge translation mandate, and (4) individuals affiliated with Indigenous non-governmental organization(s) in Canada with a research and/or knowledge translation mandate. CIHR-IMHA aims to support further research and knowledge mobilization activities for eligible applicants through these prizes. Individual or team applications can be made.

Funds available

The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $875,000 enough to fund approximately thirty-five (35) grants in form of prizes in FY 2022-23. Each prize is valued at $25,000. Of the total amount, $175,000 is available to fund up to seven (7) prizes in each research domain.
