Call for Nominations for the 2023 CIHR-ICRH/CAEP Mid-Career Lecturer Award in Emergency Medicine
The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) and the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) have partnered on the 2023 CIHR-ICRH/CAEP Mid-Career Lecturer Award in Emergency Medicines to recognize an individual's outstanding contribution to the advancement of emergency medicine both in Canada and internationally at the mid-point of their career. The award will be presented to the selected candidate at the 2023 CAEP Annual Scientific Meeting, where the recipient will deliver a lecture as part of the scientific program.
The selected candidate will be an outstanding mid-career investigator, who at the time of application has assumed their independent research position 5-15 years ago. For the 2023 competition only, the eligibility time frame is adjusted by 1 year to account for productivity losses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the eligibility time frame is from 6-16 years ago. For all competitions, we will account for all disclosed leaves (i.e. parental, medical, and family responsibility leave) when calculating career stage.
The selected candidate has conducted the majority of their research in Canada and has contributed significantly to the advancement of emergency medicine in Canada and/or internationally. The individual may have conducted work in any one of a number of emergency medicine disciplines and within any of the four CIHR research theme areas: biomedical; clinical; health systems and services; and social, cultural, environmental and population health. The successful candidate’s research should also be aligned with the interests of CAEP.
The award consists of a $5,000 honorarium in addition to coverage of eligible expenses (e.g., travel, accommodations, registration fee, etc.) for the recipient to attend the 2023 CAEP Annual Scientific Meeting and to deliver a lecture on a research topic relevant to a broad research audience.
Please complete the 2023 nomination form [ PDF (169 KB) ] and submit it to Dr. Yuliya Fakhr by e-mail at yuliya.fakhr@cihr-irsc.gc.ca by 4:00 pm MST on December 4, 2022 (extended). All emails received will be acknowledged.
The awardee will be announced by CIHR and CAEP in January 2023.
CIHR and CAEP recognize the diversity within health research. We encourage nominations for outstanding scientists who are women, Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis), members of visible minority groups (racialized persons), persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQ+ persons, and others who contribute to the further diversification of ideas.
Please note that only one nomination for an individual is permitted and multiple nominations for an individual will not be accepted. Scientists who have received a CIHR-ICRH partnered Distinguished Lecturer Award previously are not eligible for nomination.
Nominations for candidates not selected may be carried forward for consideration for up to three (3) consecutive years from the original nomination year, and the nominator may be contacted to update the nomination package.
Please consider the CIHR-ICRH Strategic Priorities (Preparing Future Capacity, Accelerating Knowledge Through Collaboration, Catalyzing Impact Through Knowledge Mobilization) and Foundational Themes (Strengthening Indigenous Health Research, Enhancing Equity, Diversity and inclusion in Health Research) when reflecting the nominees impacts against the below evaluation criteria. For more information, please view the CIHR-ICRH Strategic Plan 2022–2025.
