Launch: 2023 CIHR-PHAC Applied Public Health Chairs
Dear colleagues,
As you may have seen, the CIHR Institute of Population & Public Health (CIHR-IPPH) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) have relaunched the Applied Public Health Chair (APHC) program! This program is one of many collaborations between our two agencies and represents an important investment in applied public health research and capacity building.
The APHC program provides mid-career researchers with an opportunity to collaborate with decision-makers and support evidence-informed decision-making that improves health and health equity. To facilitate this process, successful Chairs will partner with a decision maker for the duration of the award, as well as benefit from PHAC-provided support and linkages between each Chair and relevant knowledge users.
We are also excited to see the program slightly expanded from the 2021 launch, with ten Chairs available to tackle a new host of public health challenges that include Public Health Systems Transformation; Environment, Climate Change, and One Health; Urban Indigenous Health; Oral Health; and more.
Full details about this funding opportunity are now available on ResearchNet. We invite interested applicants to join a webinar co-hosted by PHAC and CIHR-IPPH in February where we will provide an overview of the program and answer any questions about the application process. Information about the webinar will be posted on ResearchNet once the date is confirmed.
The CIHR-PHAC Applied Public Health Chair program has been a powerful tool that serves to strengthen Canada’s public health systems. We look forward to working with a new cohort of incredible public health researchers based across the country. As always, please share this opportunity with anyone who you think might be a good fit.
Best,
Jennifer Gunning and Sarah Viehbeck
