Call for Nominations for the 2024 CIHR-ICRH/CTS Mid-Career Lecturer Award in Respiratory Sciences

The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) and the Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) partnered for the inaugural Mid-Career Lecturer Award in Respiratory Sciences in recognition of an individual's outstanding contribution to the advancement of respiratory sciences both in Canada and internationally at the mid-point of their career. The award is presented to the selected candidate at the Canadian Respiratory Conference (CRC), where the recipient will give a keynote lecture as part of the scientific program. The next CRC will be held in Toronto, Ontario from April 11-13, 2024. The CRC is the national annual educational and scientific meeting of the Canadian Thoracic Society.

The selected candidate will be an outstanding mid-career investigator (at the time of application, has assumed their independent research position 5-15 years ago) who has conducted the majority of their research in Canada and has contributed significantly to the advancement of respiratory sciences in Canada and/or internationally. Due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19, the eligibility time frame is adjusted by 1 year to account for productivity losses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the eligibility time frame is from 6-16 years ago. For all competitions, we will account for all disclosed leaves (i.e., parental, medical, and family responsibility leave) when calculating career stage.

The selected candidate will be an outstanding scientist who has conducted the majority of their research in Canada and who has contributed to the advancement of respiratory sciences. The individual may have conducted work in any one of a number of respiratory disciplines and within any of the four CIHR research theme areas: biomedical; clinical; health systems and services; and, social, cultural, environmental and population health. The nominated candidate's research should also be in a field of interest to the CIHR-ICRH, CTS, and attendees of the CRC.

The award includes a $5,000 honorarium and reimbursement of eligible expenses (e.g., travel, accommodations, registration fee, etc.) for the recipient to attend CRC and participate in in a session as a part of the CRC.

Please note that only one nomination for an individual is permitted and multiple nominations for an individual will not be accepted. Scientists who have received an ICRH partnered Mid-Career Lecturer Award previously are not eligible for nomination.

Nominations for candidates not selected may be carried forward for consideration for up to three (3) consecutive years from the original nomination year, and the nominator may be contacted to update the nomination package.
