Biography
Cheryl Wenezenki-Yolland is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with an extensive career in public service, spanning more than 30 years. She has considerable executive experience and is a seasoned board and committee member. Cheryl is the founder and principal of Savoir Faire: Management Consulting for Organizational Excellence. She completed a Master of Arts Degree in Global Leadership at Royal Roads University in 2022.
Cheryl's diverse experience includes a mix of government operations, crown agencies, regulatory agencies, and not-for-profit organizations, covering many areas including corporate and public sector governance, finance, internal audit and advisory services, and enterprise risk management. Her more than 15 years of senior leadership experience has included roles as the Deputy Minister of Advanced Education Innovation and Technology, and the Associate Deputy Minister(s) of Finance and of Environment with the Province of British Columbia.
Cheryl was the first woman appointed as British Columbia's Comptroller General, a role she held from 2006 to 2010; and as the Deputy lead responsible for Internal Audit and Advisory Services within the BC Public Service for 8 years, she guided significant transformation in the function and practices.
As the Associate Deputy Minister of Finance, she was responsible for the Crown Agency Resource Office the provincial agency overseeing British Columbia's crown agencies. She also led several significant BC crown agency performance reviews. Cheryl was appointed British Columbia's 1st Chief Records Officer in 2015 to lead a cross-government effort to transform information practices of the BC Public Service.
As the Deputy Minister of Advanced Education Cheryl's focus was on evolving the education system through successful relationships, community engagement and empowering her teams.
Cheryl recently completed her terms as a board member and treasurer of the Health Data Coalition of BC. She is a former board member of the Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation of British Columbia and former commissioner of the Financial Institutions Commission of British Columbia.
Cheryl recently completed her term as member of CPABC Membership Regulatory Committee and is a financial literacy volunteer with the Charter Professional Accountants of Canada. Cheryl was awarded a fellowship from the Chartered Professional Accountants for her leadership within the accounting profession and distinction in her public service career in 2015 and the Society of Management Accountants of Canada in 2007. In 2010 she was recognized by the British Columbia Public Sector, Chief Financial Officers Council for her Exceptional Leadership. As a current member of the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board Conceptual Framework Taskforce, Cheryl continues to work at the national level to promote accountability and transparency for all public sector organizations by providing practical perspective and effecting strong standards for public sector accounting, reporting and auditing.
Cheryl currently serves as a member of the Departmental Audit Committee for Correctional Services Canada.
