IHDCYH priorities in 2024 and beyond
Message from Dr. Christine Chambers
Ringing in the new year earlier this month coincided with the start of my second term as Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health. It is an honour and privilege to be able to continue in this role for another four years. Priorities in my second term include strengthening existing and new research initiatives, promoting health equity, inclusivity and reconciliation, mobilizing knowledge, building capacity within our research community, and continuing to foster relationships with other CIHR Institutes, government agencies, academic institutions, community organizations, and other partners to maximize the impact of research.
Plans already underway include building on our Healthy Youth Initiative, increased supports for implementation science, and the relaunch of our early career researcher program. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the IHDCYH Talks knowledge mobilization competition this year we are working on expanding the types of submissions that will be accepted. Everyone is invited to take our brief survey by January 31 to let us know which formats you would like to see included this year.
Congratulations to the 2023 awardees of the SickKids-CIHR-IHDCYH New Investigator Grants in Child and Youth Health. This annual competition relaunched on January 20, 2024.
Thank you to our Institute Advisory Board (IAB) members who have completed their terms, Drs. Peter Leung and Sarah McDonald. Welcome to our incoming members, Drs. Isabelle Boucoiran and Souvik Mitra – we look forward to collaborating with you! CIHR’s annual call for IAB applications is currently open. Learn more about how one joins an IAB and some considerations for application assessment in this related message.
I’m looking forward to another wonderful year with the IHDCYH health research community.
Christine
