Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director
October 2024
It was a pleasure to host the 57th INMD Institute Advisory Board (IAB) meeting in Montreal, Quebec. The meeting started with a Meet & Greet and Poster Session held at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM)). We were honored to be joined by several special guests including Dr. Dominique Bérubé, Vice-President of Research and Innovation – McGill University, Dr. Ariane Marelli, Scientific Director – CIHR Institute for Circulatory and Respiratory Health, Dr. Marie-Josée Hébert, Vice-Rector of Research, Discovery, Creation and Innovation – University of Montreal and Chair of CIHR Governing Council, and Dr. Katherine Frohlich, Scientific Director – CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health. Thank you to the ICRM for the warm welcome, and thanks to the students and trainees who enthusiastically presented their posters.
Highlights from the meeting included presentations from Dr. Diane Wherrett on the CanScreenT1D consortium and lectureships from Dr. Kaberi Dasgupta, “The Canada-UK Remission of diabetes and improved diastolic function by combining structured exercise with meal replacement and food ReintroducTion (Reset) trial: rationale, progress to date, and the future”, and Dr. Vincent Poitout, “Trying to understand the islet of Langerhans while running a research centre”.
The IAB was engaged in thoughtful discussions about research impact assessment and were joined by Tamara Keating, who is the Deputy Director of Impact Assessment at CIHR. We discussed the use of bibliometric indicators and case studies to assess the impact of CIHR funded diabetes research.
A special thank you to the ICRM for welcoming us, and to the IAB members for their curiosity, feedback, and enthusiastic participation throughout the meeting.
