Update on CIHR's transition to the tri-agency CV for the Project Grant competition
Message from the Acting Vice-President, Research Programs
October 9, 2025
Dear colleagues,
Last year, the three granting agencies announced a gradual transition to a new narrative-style CV for our competitions. CIHR has been implementing the new CV in select competitions, and we are continuing to adopt it as we launch new funding opportunities.
CIHR will introduce the new tri-agency CV to the Project Grant program, our largest competition, no sooner than for the Spring 2027 competition. To ensure applicants and reviewers have sufficient time to adapt to the new format, we will provide at least a year's notice before implementation.
CIHR is collaborating closely with committee Chairs and Scientific Officers to guide the use of the tri-agency CV in the Project Grant competition, including determining which team members will be required to submit a CV as part of the application.
How will CIHR support applicants and reviewers to prepare for this change?
We are committed to supporting the research community during this transition. In the lead-up to the adoption of the new CV in Project, we will host several webinars for applicants and reviewers. These sessions will walk you through the new template and provide time to answer your questions. In addition, the tri-agency CV template [ DOCX (34.4 KB) ], instructions, answers to frequently asked questions, and other support materials are available so applicants and reviewers can familiarize themselves with the new format.
As always, our Contact Centre is here to answer your questions related to the tri-agency CV: support-soutien@cihr-irsc.gc.ca.
Sincerely,
Adrian Mota
Acting Vice-President, Research – Programs
